The AWE for Nature Foundation is a Geneva-based non-profit dedicated to implementing innovative conservation finance solutions within Zimbabwe’s Protected Areas Network.
By collaborating with local authorities, international partners, conservationists, and communities, we create sustainable funding streams that support both nature and local livelihoods.
The conservation funding gap is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and the cost of inaction is immense.
While many financial solutions exist, few are being tested and implemented on the ground to create lasting impact.
We are changing that! Our 200,000-hectare pilor project provides a real-world testing ground to turn ideas into solutions.
The Chewore South Safari Area is a living testament to Africa’s wild beauty. Set in Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Valley, this 202,000-hectare UNESCO World Heritage Site is part of a vast interconnected chain of protected areas stretching into Botswana, Zambia, and Mozambique. The Zambezi Valley’s wildlife-rich landscapes represent everything conservationists strive to preserve.
A central piece within this wilderness mosaic is Chewore, a beacon of hope and a vast and magnificent refuge for endangered species, including the Zambezi Valley’s last viable Roan Antelope population. This landscape, rich with natural wonders such as perfectly preserved dinosaur footprints, faces growing threats, leaving its habitats and wildlife increasingly vulnerable.
Recognizing the urgency to act, the AWE for Nature Foundation has established the Chewore Conservation Trust (CCT). With a 25-year lease and co-management mandate with the national parks authority to steward the Chewore South Safari Area, January 2025 marks the official start of this exciting project!
We have proudly joined the Incubation Programme of African Parks, a renowned conservation organization committed to the rehabilitation and long-term management of protected areas across Africa. Currently, African Parks manages 23 parks across 13 countries, encompassing 20 million hectares, making it one of the most impactful conservation entities on the continent.

HEAD OF CONSERVATION
HEAD OF STRATEGY
As a member of their incubation programme, our partnership with African Parks is invaluable. Their guidance, and technical experience helps to ensure that conservation operations in Chewore South meet the highest standards.
Our essential collaboration with the Zimbabwean Parks and Wildlife Management Authority is centered around the lease of the Chewore South concession. Together, we aim to optimise management capacity within the area, and reduce illegal activity and human wildlife conflict.
Collaboration is at the heart of what we do!
